Little Rock National AirportAir transportation at the Port of Little Rock is facilitated by the Little Rock National Airport. Located less than one mile from the Port, the Airport plays a vital link in the transportation of goods that enter and exit the Port of Little Rock. Little Rock National is the 77th largest commercial service airport in the U.S. and the sixth largest small hub. It handled about 2.6 million passengers in 2001. Ten airlines serve Little Rock with about 122 flights into and out of Little Rock daily. About 12,000 seats are available each day on inbound/outbound flights. The airlines serving Little Rock offer non-stop jet service to a number of destinations, including eleven national/international gateways. More than 4,000 people work at the airport or for aviation-related businesses and industries located on or adjacent to the field, including Dassault-Falcon Jet, Raytheon Aircraft, Southwest Airlines Reservation Center and United Parcel Service. Certain areas on the airport are designated as a Foreign Trade Zone. The airport's FTZ is an extension of Little Rock Port Trade Zone #14. A number of airfreight services are available, ranging from small package expediting through airfreight express and international freight forwarding. In addition, a number of couriers provide expeditious movement of documents and small items in both domestic and international service. More than 21 million pounds of airfreight and more than 20 million pounds of mail were shipped through the airport in 2001. More than $170 million in capital improvements have been made at the airport during the 1990s to ensure that Little Rock National well serves the traveling and business community well into the new century.
